About ME

I have a long history of working for social justice and racial equality in London, starting as a youth worker and becoming the Director of Youth Services for a charity in Camden.

I have a BA in Informal & Community Education from Canterbury Christ Church University College and I am currently the Director of Community Relations & Public Affairs at LabTech, which owns Camden Market, a place that supports small businesses and entrepreneurs. I am also the Vice-Chair for SME4Labour, an organisation that advocates for the interests of Small and Medium Enterprises in the UK.
I joined the Labour Party in the late 1990s because I believed that only Labour could protect and support families like mine.

I was a Councillor in Camden between 2006 – 2022 and a Cabinet member from 2010 -2022, I have worked hard to make local government more responsive and inclusive for the diverse communities in the borough. I co-chair a Taskforce with Keir Starmer, our local MP, to improve youth safety in Camden, which led to the creation of the Engage Programme, a youth diversion scheme that has received £3 million from the Mayor of London and is now operating across the city.

I am also involved in various other bodies, such as Chairman of the Capital Kids Cricket for West Ham and Stratford Cricket Club, a member of the Knowledge Quarter Steering Group, and member of London Bangladeshi Health Partnership. I have been a Trustee of St. Andrews Charity, a Member of London Councils Grants Committee, and a Governor of Westminster Kingsway College. I am passionate about making London a fairer, safer, and more prosperous place for everyone.
